Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on August 27

The Story

The book was Mama Cat has Three Kittens by Denise Fleming

The Song: Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes

Actions: touch each part of the body as it is sung

Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes,
Knees and Toes
Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes,
Knees and Toes

And Eyes and Ears and Mouth and Nose
Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

The Craft: Noodle Necklace

What you’ll need:

  • Dried Pasta – any pasta works, but for stringing you will need tube pasta (macaroni, penne, wheels).
  • Food coloring
  • Rubbing alcohol
  • Plastic baggies
  • Paper towels
  • Shoe String or Yarn

How to make it:

Place your dried pasta in a zip plastic baggie. Pour in 3-4 drops of food coloring. Pour in 1 Tablespoon of Rubbing Alcohol. Now seal the bag and shake it all together. Make sure each piece of dried pasta gets coated. Pour your colored pasta out on paper towel lined trays. Food coloring can stain, so be careful. You’ll want it completely dry before you start to work with it again, as you don’t want any color to drip.
Give each child a string and let them make a necklace.  If you are using string, wrap one end with tape to make it easier to thread thru the pasta.

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on August 20

The Story

The book was Hi Harry! By Martin Waddell

The Song: Turtle Song

I got a little turtle, his name is Tiny Tim,
I put him in the bathtub to see if he could swim (make a swimming noise and movement)
He drank up all the water (move your hands towards your mouth and make a “gulp” sound)
He ate up all the soap (make a munching noise with the eating of the soap)
Then my little turtle got a bubble in his throat (tap under your chin gently when you say that line)

The Craft: Turtle

What you’ll need:

  • Old CD
  • Green felt
  • Green craft foam
  • Goggle Eyes
  • Magnet

How to make it:

Trace the CD on the green felt and cut out the circle. Set aside.

Cut four legs and a head from the craft foam. These can be rectangles with rounded edges. Cut a triangle shape for the tail.

Glue the head, legs, and tail on the CD. Then glue the felt circle over them.

Attach the goggle eyes to the head and a magnet to the back.

And smile a smile for me.

Hey hey everybody lift your arms
Turn around, stamp your foot
Get down stand up (3X)
And smile a smile for me.

What you’ll need:

  • A paper plate
  • Colored construction paper or tissue paper
  • Paint, markers, or crayons
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Optional – glitter, crepe paper or other ribbons

How to make it:

Cut a slit through the center of the paper plate, leaving about an inch at the edges of the plate. Cut three more slits.

Bend the triangles formed by the cuts upwards, forming leaf-like shapes. If you want a colored hat you can use a colored plate or color a white plate with paint, crayons, or markers.

Use your imagination to decorate your hat.  Some ideas include stickers, flowers cut from construction paper or tissue paper, foam shapes, glitter glue, or dot markers.

The Story

The book was Splash by Ann Jonas

The Song: Have You Ever Gone Fishing

Have you ever gone fishing (pretend to fish)
On a bright and sunny day (make a sun with your arms)
With all the little fishies swimmin’ up and down the bay (put hands together and move like fish)
With your hands in your pockets (slap pockets)
And your pockets in your pants (slap hips)
All the little fishies do the hoochy coochy dance (dance)
BaDa DaDa Da BaDa DaDa (clap while singing)
BaDa DaDa Da BaDa DaDa
With your hands in your pockets (slap pockets)
And your pockets in your pants (slap hips)
All the little fishies do the hoochy coochy dance.

The Craft: Gone Fishing Door Hanger

Craft from Oriential Trading. No longer available for sale, but same thing can be achieved by cutting shapes out of foam.
