Fisher Price Massive Recall of 11million+ Toys and Gears

Thursday, September 30th, 2010

Announcements were made earlier today via CPSC that Fisher-Price / Mattel is doing yet another round of recall for toys and gears. The offending products range in hazard from choking hazards to laceration to genital bleeding.

For a complete product list, view Fisher-Price’s official letter here. You can also view the very long list of products that were recalled, past and current.

We would like to remind parents and grandparents to be highly selective and make informed decisions when purchasing products for their beloved little ones.

Hat tip to Cool Mom Picks.

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on September 17

The Story

The book was Apples, Apples, Apples by Nancy Elizabeth Wallace

Action Rhyme: Apple

Way up high in the apple tree. (Point up.)
Two little apples smiled at me. (Make a shape of a apple with your hand.)
I shook that tree as hard as I could. (Pretend to shake a tree.)
Down fell the apples— (Raise hands and let them fall.)
MMMMMM, were they good! (Circle tummy.)

The Song: Apple Seed

To the tune of Eensy Weensy Spider

Once a little apple seed
Was planted in the ground.
Down came the raindrops
Falling all around
Out came the bright sun
As bright as bright could be
and the little apple seed
Grew up to be an apple tree.

The Craft: Apple

What you’ll need:

  • White cardstock
  • Red, green, and brown construction paper
  • Scissors
  • Glue or glue stick

How to make it:

Cut an apple shape out of the white cardstock. Then cut a stem out of the brown construction paper and two leaves out of the green construction paper. Tear the red construction paper into small pieces. Glue the pieces onto the apple shape. When the apple is covered, glue on the stem and leaves.

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on September 10

The Story

The book was If You Take A Mouse To School by Laura Numeroff

The Craft: Origami Mouse

What you’ll need:

  • 4” square of construction paper
  • Construction paper scraps
  • Black fine point marking pen or crayon

How to make it:

Fold the paper square in half diagonally.

Unfold the square.

Make a kite shape.  Lay the square in front of you so that it looks like a diamond.  The line from the fold should point at your stomach.  Fold the corner on your left to the center fold line.

Fold the corner on your right to the center fold line.

Fold the kite shape in half along the diagonal so that the flaps are inside.

Open the fold so that a tiny tent forms.  The two flaps will overlap at the bottom of the tent.  Glue or tape the overlapping flaps together.

Cut the scraps of paper to make ears and a tail for your mouse.  Glue them on the mouse.  Draw eyes with marking pen.

Idea: Vary the size of the square and create a whole family of mice.

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on September 3

The Story

The book was The Snake A very Long Story by Bernard Waber

The Craft: Slinky Link Snake

What you’ll need:

  • 1″ x 9″ paper strips
  • 4″ paper square
  • 1/2″ x 3″ red paper strip
  • glue
  • scissors
  • markers

How to make it:

  1. Trim the square into a snake head shape.
  2. Glue a 1″ x 9″ paper strip end to end, forming a link. Hold the ends in place and allow the glue to set.
  3. Place another same-size strip through the link and glue the ends together to create an additional link. Continue adding links until the desired length is obtained.
  4. Use the markers to add facial features to the snake. Then accordion-fold the red strip and glue it to the head so it resembles a tongue.
  5. Glue the head to the first link of the chain. Hold it in place and allow the glue to set.
