Fun Friday: Story Time + Crafts #34

Saturday, November 27th, 2010

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on November 26th.

The Story

The book was One Is a Feast for Mouse by Judy Cox.

The Songs:

Little Mousie Brown

Up the tall candlestick.
Went little Mousie Brown.
But when he got to the top.
He couldn’t get down.
So he called for his Grandma “GRANDMA”
But she wasn’t in town.
So he curled himself into a ball.
And rolled all the way down.

Two Little Feet

Two little feet go stamp, stamp, stamp
Two little hands go clap, clap, clap
One little body stands up straight
One little body goes round and round
One little body sits quietly down.

The Craft: Craft Stick Mouse

What you’ll need:

  • 2 Wide Craft Sticks
  • Brown Construction Paper
  • Black Bean
  • Black Yarn
  • Markers or Crayons
  • Scissors
  • Craft glue, glue stick or glue dots

How to make it:

Glue the craft sticks together to form a cross.  Cut two circles (1 – 1 ½ in) from the brown construction paper for the ears.   Glue the circles to the back side of the top of the vertical craft stick.  Cut a piece of yarn 12 inches long.  Wrap it around the juncture of the 2 craft sticks.  Tie a bow in the front.  Then cut another piece of yarn 6 inches long and glue it to the back for the tail.  Glue the black bean on as a nose.  Finally add eyes, whiskers, and paws with a marker or crayon.

The Story

The book was This Is the Turkey by Abby Levine

The Songs:

Mr. Turkey

Mr. Turkey’s tail is big and wide
(spread fingers)

He swings it when he walks
(swing hands)

His neck is long
(stretch neck)

His chin is red
(stroke chin)

And he gobbles when he talks
(open and close hands and gobbles)

Hello Mr. Turkey!

To the tune of If You’re Happy and You Know It.

Hello Mr. Turkey, how are you? (clap, clap)
Hello Mr. Turkey, how are you? (clap, clap)
With a gobble, gobble, gobble
and a wobble, wobble, wobble,
Hello Mr. Turkey, how are you? (clap, clap)

The Craft: Turkey

What you’ll need:

  • Colored craft foam
  • Wiggle Eyes
  • Wide Craft Stick
  • Glue stick
  • Scissors

How to make it:

Cut a turkey body from brown craft foam.  Cut four feathers from assorted colors.  Cut a beak from yellow or orange craft foam.  Assemble your turkey attaching the feathers to the back side of the turkey body.  When dry attach the turkey to a large craft stick.  These are fun to use for Thanksgiving songs and fingerplays or just as decorations.

You can also make these using construction paper if you don’t have craft foam.
