The Story
The book was The Night Before New Year’s by Natasha Wing
The Songs:
Let’s Give a Cheer for the New Year
Sing to the tune of “Row Row Row Your Boat”
Ring, ring, ring the bells.
Tap, tap, tap the drums.
The New Year’s here.
Let’s give a cheer.
We’ll have a year of fun!
Happy New Year
Goodbye to the old.
Hello to the new.
Happy New Year to you;
May your wishes come true!

The Craft: New Year’s Eve Shakers and Hats
Shakers
What you’ll need:
- Plastic film canister
- Beans or popcorn kernels
- Stickers
- Curling ribbon
- Glue or tape (optional)
How to make it:
Poke a hole in the canister’s cap (parent job) and thread curling ribbon through. Knot the ribbon on the underside of the cap. You can curl the ribbon or leave it straight to make streamers.
Let the child decorate the canister with sticker. Older children can use paint markers, fabric paint or glitter glue.
Fill the canister half full with beans or popcorn kernels. Replace cap. You can glue or tape the cap for added security.
Hats
What you’ll need:
- Cone shaped hats (We found 6 for $1.00 at the Dollar Tree) or make from construction paper tutorial
- Assorted art supplies (stickers, crayons, markers, pipe cleaners, pom poms, etc.)
How to make it:
Let the child have fun decorating the hat. To attach pipe cleaners to the hat, use a thumb tack to poke a small hole in the hat. Insert the pipe cleaner, fold over 1 inch inside the hat, and tape down with duck tape. You can curl the pipe cleaner by wrapping it around a pencil or your finger. Attach a pom pom on the end using double stick tape.
