Saturday, February 26th, 2011

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on February 25th.

The Story

The book was Circus by Lois Ehlert.

The Songs

Have you ever seen a circus?
Sing to the tune “Have you ever seen a lassie?”

Have you ever seen a circus, a circus, a circus
Have you ever seen a circus
Oh, what a show
With lions and tigers and horses and acrobats
have you ever seen a circus
Oh, what a show

Walking Through The Circus
Sing to the tune “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad.”

I am walking through the circus (walk in place)
Happy as can be (smile real big)
I am walking through the circus (walk in place)
Just to see, what I can see (make binoculars with hands)
I can see the clown laughing (ha, ha, ha)
I can see the elephant, too (make trunk motion)
I can see the lion sleeping (yawn)
Look out (make binoculars with hands)… because he sees you too

The Craft: Clown Costume

What you’ll need:

  • Paper plate
  • Cone shaped birthday hat or large sheet of construction paper
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • Crayons or Markers
  • Stickers, pipe cleaners, pom poms, or other misc. craft items

How to make it:

Decorate a large piece of construction paper any way you want with markers, crayons, stickers, etc. Roll it up into a cone shape. Staple elastic cord on opposite sides to that child can put it on their head and elastic cord will go under chin and hold it on. (You can also use a pre-made birthday party hat).

Make a clown collar by cutting the middle out of a paper plate and cutting through the ring on one side. Decorate and slip around child’s neck.

Option: You can make a clown nose by painting an egg cup (from an egg carton) red. Let dry and staple an elastic cord on opposite sides so that child can put it over their head and wear nose.
