Saturday, May 28th, 2011

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on May 27th.

The Story

The book was A Frog in the Bog by Karma Wilson.

The Songs

Little Green Frog

Mm, Mm went the little green frog one day,
Mm, Mm went the little green frog,
Mm, Mm went the little green frog one day,
And they all went Mm, Mm, Aahh!
But!
We all know frogs go, Lahdeedahdeedah!
We all know frogs go, Lahdeedahdeedah!
We all know frogs go, Lahdeedahdeedah!
They don’t go Mm, Mm, Aahh!

I Have a Little Frog

I have a little frog
His name is Tiny Tim,
I put him in the bathtub,
to see if he could swim,
He drank up all the water,
and gobbled up the soap!
And when he tried to talk
He had a BUBBLE in his throat!

The Craft: Fly Catching Frog

What you’ll need:

  • Frog outline (see instructions below)
  • Green craft foam
  • 2 large googly eyes
  • Glue or glue dots
  • Scissors
  • Red party blower

How to make it:

Download and print the frog outline found at Family Fun.

Cut the frog out and trace it onto a piece of green craft foam.

Cut out the shape, cutting 2 small x’s where indicated. Glue on 2 large googly eyes and allow the glue to dry completely.

Add the tongue, fold back the frog’s head and push the mouthpiece of the red party blower first through the head then through the body.

To flick the frog’s tongue, simply blow through the tube.

Fun Friday: Story Time + Craft: Over in the Garden by Jennifer Ward and Butterfly Craft

Saturday, May 21st, 2011

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on May 20th.

The Story

The book was Over in the Garden by Jennifer Ward.

The Songs

Bugs Galore

Ants are insects that may live underground,
Grasshoppers are insects that hop all around.
Butterflies are insects with beautiful wings.
Crickets are insects that sing, sing, sing!
Ladybugs are insects that are easy to spot.
Are spiders insects?
No, they’re not!

Caterpillar to Butterfly

I’m a caterpillar so cute and green.
I’m inside a chrysalis and can’t be seen.
Wait a little while and you will see why.
I’ll pop out as a butterfly!

Once I Saw a Butterfly

Once I saw a butterfly
Dancing in the clear blue sky.
Through the meadow he would go.
Flying high and flying low
Once I saw a butterfly
Dancing in the clear blue sky

The Craft: Duck Headband

What you’ll need:

  • Zip-lock baggie
  • Construction paper or tissue paper
  • Pipe cleaner
  • Scissors

How to make it:

Cut the top (that sticks up above the zipper) off the baggie.

Cut construction paper or tissue paper into squares, crumple them and place them inside the baggie. Fill the baggie about ⅔ full.
Squeeze out the air in the baggie and seal it tight. Gather it in the middle and wrap and twist a pipe cleaner around the center. Twirl the ends to make the butterfly’s antennas.
