Wednesday, September 28th, 2011

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on September 23rd.

The Stories

Mamma Cat Has Three Kittens by Denise Fleming

My Cats Nick & Nora by Isabelle Harper

Grumpy Cat by Britta Teckentrup

The Songs and Fingerplays

I’m A Little Cat

(Sung to “I’m a Little Teapot”)

I’m a little kitty cat,

soft and furry.

I’ll be your friend,

so don’t you worry.

Right up on your lap I like to hop.

I’ll purr, purr, purr and never stop.

HUGS
(Nobody likes me, everyone hates me, think I’ll go eat worms..)
Everybody wants one, Everybody needs one,
Everybody loves a hug!
Big hugs, little hugs, even itty bitty hugs.
Hugs for everyone!

The Craft: Cat collar and headband

Supplies Needed:

  • White paper plate
  • Crayons
  • Stickers, gems, craft foam shapes
  • Scissors
  • Glue or glue stick
  • Tape or stapler

Directions:
For the Cat Collar
Cut the center out of the paper plate so only the rippled ring remains. Cut a slit in the ring so the child will be able to slip it on their neck. Optional; you can punch a hole on each side of the cut and put yarn or string to hold the ring together once the child has put it on their neck. Let the child decorate the paper plate ring with crayons, stickers, gems or foam shapes.

For the Head Band
Have the child color a picture of a cat’s face. You can find a simple one in a coloring book, or on line. Cut out the picture and tape it to a piece of bulletin board border or strips of construction paper to form a crown.

The Craft: Ladybug

Here’s what you’ll need…
• Construction paper – black, red and green

• Pencil

• Scissors

• Glue or tape

• Black marker

• Hole punch

Here’s how you make it…
Cut out a red and black circle from your construction paper – they need to be the same size and no more than about 5″ in diameter (otherwise your hole punch won’t reach into the middle). Cut your red circle in half and cut out a small black circle for the head. Try using a small plate to trace out the big circles and a spice container to trace around for the small circle.

2. Glue or tape your black circles onto a piece of green construction paper as shown in the picture.

3. Punch holes in both red semi circles and then glue onto your black circle. With a black marker draw on legs and antennae.
