Waves in the Sea

The Craft: CD Fish

What you’ll need:

How to make it:
Cut out a big fin, a small fin, a tail, and two small hearts out of paper. Color as desired.
Glue pieces to the side of the CD with writing to form a fish (tail on the back, fins on the top and bottom). Glue the two CDs together with the shiny sides out. Add the wiggle eyes and heart shaped mouth on front.

The Craft: Scarecrow

What you’ll need:

• TP roll

• Popsicle stick

• Muffin cup

• Construction paper

• Masking tape

• Glue

• Scissors

• Markers



How to make it:

1. Cut 2 slits down your TP roll, opposite each other and about 2/3 down the roll (see picture). 


2. Slide your popsicle stick into the slits. Wrap the top 1/3 of the roll with masking tape (to make the scarecrows face, and to keep the TP roll together).


3. Cut a strip of yellow construction paper about 5″ X 11/2″ big. Cut fringe at either end. Fold it to fit the top of the TP roll and glue on.
4. Once your Scarecrow’s hair is on go ahead and draw on a face and glue on your muffin cup hat. Add a little more color by cutting out small square patches for your Scarecrow.

If you’re doing this craft with preschoolers, make it easier by having the craft stick and masking tape in place and pre-cut the hair. They can glue on everything and make the Scarecrow’s face!

The Craft: Bat Headband

What you’ll need:

• Black construction paper

• White and yellow construction paper
• Scissors

• Glue

• Stapler

How to make it:
Cut two 1½” inch wide strips lengthwise from black construction paper and staple one end together. Cut two wings and a head from black construction paper. Cut two triangles from white construction paper for the teeth. Cut two small yellow circles from yellow construction paper for the eyes. Glue head and wings to the back of strip. Decorate the bat with teeth and eyes and let dry. When dry, fit band around the child’s head and staple together.

The Craft: Paper Plate Ghost

What you’ll need:

• 9″ paper plate
• Black construction paper
• White construction paper
• Wiggle eyes
• Glue stick
• Scissors
• White crepe paper streamers
• 12″ piece of white yarn
• Hole Punch

How to make it:

1. Cut two large ovals from black paper and two small ovals from white paper.
2. Use glue stick to attach the white ovals to the black ovals. Glue wiggle eye on white oval.
3. Cut two arms from white paper and the mouth from black paper.
4. Glue the facial features to the front of the paper plate. Glue the arms to the back of the paper plate.
5. Cut crepe paper into five strips, 24 inches long each. Glue crepe paper to the back of the paper plate so that they hang down from the bottom.
6. Punch hole in the top of the paper plate. Loop yarn thru hole and tie to make a hanger.

On Tuesday, 2 yellow pears, on Tuesday 2 yellow pears, on Tuesday 2 yellow pears, that’s what the caterpillar eats.
On Wednesday, 3 purple plums, on Wednesday 3 purple plums, on Wednesday 3 purple plums, that’s what the caterpillar eats.
On Thursday, 4 red strawberries, on Thursday, 4 red strawberries, on Thursday, 4 red strawberries, that’s what the caterpillar eats.

Caterpillar (sung to Row, row your boat)
One caterpillar, two caterpillars, three caterpillars today. 

Four caterpillars, five caterpillars eating all the day. 

One cocoon, two cocoons, three cocoons today.

Four cocoons, five cocoons sleeping all the day. 

One butterfly, two butterflies, three butterflies today.

The Craft: Caterpillar/Butterfly

What you need:

• Scissors
• Glue
• Wide craft stick
• Colored Pom Poms
• Construction paper
• Toilet paper roll
• Velcro
• Crayons or markers

To Make:
Glue pom poms the length of the craft stick.
Use a marker to make eyes and mouth at one end.
Cut two antennae from the construction paper: glue on end of craft stick.
Let dry. Apply a small piece of Velcro on the back of the caterpillar.

Cut a butterfly shape out of paper. Color or decorate with markers. Apply a small piece of Velcro to the front side of the butterfly.

Roll the butterfly to fit into the toilet paper tube.

Take the caterpillar and insert it into the “cocoon” toilet paper roll. Press the Velcro pieces together. Pull the caterpillar from the cocoon and reveal the butterfly.
