Fun Friday: Story Time + Crafts #26

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Here’s what we did for Fun Friday on October 1

The Story

The book was The Little Scarecrow Boy by Margaret Wise Brown

The Song: Scarecrow, Scarecrow

Tune:  Twinkle, Twinkle

Scarecrow, scarecrow turn around.
Scarecrow, scarecrow touch the ground.
Stand up tall and blink your eyes.
Raise your hands up to the sky.
Clap your hands, then tap your knees.
Turn around and tap your feet.

Scarecrow, scarecrow touch your toes.
Scarecrow, scarecrow tap your nose.
Swing your arms so very slow,
Now real fast to scare the crows!
Tough your head, jump up and down.
Now sit down without a sound.

The Craft: Scarecrow

What you’ll need:

  • Brown paper lunch bag
  • Construction paper
  • Coffee filter
  • Tape or glue
  • Marker
  • Scissors
  • Old newspaper

How to make it:

Fill the paper bag with crumpled paper.  Then fold over the top and tape shut.

Cut thin strips of yellow construction paper for the Scarecrow’s hair.  Cut two circles from black or brown construction paper for the eyes and a triangle from orange construction paper for the nose.

Cut a flower out of construction paper (or use a small artificial flower) for the hat.

Glue the hair around the top of your bag.  Then glue on the eyes and nose.  Use a marker or crayon to draw the mouth.  When finished glue on your coffee filter hat and attach the flower.

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

It’s Dr. Seuss’s Birthday today. It’s also Read Across America day where all across the country, students and their teachers are wearing red-and-white hats and reading.

So don’t forget to grab your hat and read with the cat!

And if you don’t have a hat, you can always make your own with felt or paper.

The First Story Time

Thursday, February 11th, 2010

Story Time We had our very first story time yesterday. A big thank you to everyone who came! Children listened to the story and learned about weather and the importance of water cycles, colored, and played. We had a lot of fun too!

In fact, we had such a good time that we decided to have Story Time every Wednesday at 10a.m. We shall call it Wee Wednesdays!

Updated on April 8th, 2010: We are changing our Story Time to every Fridays instead. Join us every week at 10a.m. on Fridays for Stories + Crafts.
